Downtown Denizen: Jessica Briggs

Jessica Briggs
Event Coordinator, Downtown Project

What is something about you that most people don’t know?
That I love to compete in mixology competitions. It doesn’t matter if I win or not, I love creating something fun and new for people to try. But winning is a nice perk.

What was your favorite subject in school?
In college, history or culinary courses.

If you won $100 million, what would you buy first?
I would pay off all my bills for a year or two and then buy an open-ended ticket and just go, starting in Ireland and definitely ending up in Fiji.

If you had to choose just one place to vacation every year for the rest of your life, where would it be?
Hawaii. I’m Hawaiian at heart.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Graduating college and buying a home before age 25.

If someone were to make a movie about your life, who would you hope would play you?
I would want Emma Stone to play me. I think she would capture my quirky, funny side well.

If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
Probably something in regards to hospitality. Cost control was something I really enjoyed (riveting, I know).

What are some of the different jobs that you have had in your life?
Most have been related to food and beverage. I started out working in a bagel cafe making coffee drinks and bagel sandwiches. I worked at a golf course for six to eight years of my working career. That mostly involved bartending, driving the beverage cart, working my way up to assistant food and beverage manager, and then to event coordinator. Recently, I have been a dining room supervisor and a general manager of a local restaurant.

If you could try out any job for a day, what would you like to try?
My childhood dream was to be an architect, so I would want to do that for a day to see if it was what I thought it was.

What weapon would you carry during the Zombie Apocalypse?
If it is anything like playing “zombies” in Call of Duty, I wouldn’t make it long enough to even have a weapon.
